What happens when you have a working window of only 10 weeks to dredge 10,500,000 cubic metres of soil and permafrost at Sabetta Port in the Russian Ob Bay before the route back unapologetically freezes back over? 18 vessels awaited the all-ice-clear in Murmansk, the world’s largest ice-free port north of the Arctic Circle, before being escorted along the Northern Sea Route to start their mission. An extension of time was not on the table.
